Bluegreen Resorts, Bluegreen vacations, Bluegreen timeshares, and Bluegreen getaways are all under the company Bluegreen Corporation. Bluegreen offers vacation getaways and timeshare sales to customers who are looking for a better option to suit their travel needs. They are currently divided into three divisions which are: Blugreen Communities, Bluegreen Resorts, and Bluegreen Finance.
How Bluegreen Corporation Started?
Bluegreen Corporation was actually founded by Harry Patten in Vermont, at that time the name of the company was Patten Realty. In 1964 Mr. Patten bought his first piece of property in a rural location and with a partner put down the $15,000 needed to secure the land. About ten years later he decided that this was something we wanted to do on his own and in 1976 in created Patten Realty Corporation.
At this point he was simply buying large pieces of land that were about 5 to 20 acres and would plan and zone the area then immediately sell them. The company went public in 1985 and in 1991 the company moved its headquarters to Boca Raton, FL.
What is a Timeshare or Vacation Ownership?
Timeshares or vacation ownership is a way for a person or family to basically own a piece of real estate with others. It actually began back in the early 60’s in Europe and took off in the U.S. in 70’s. What happen was that companies that built condos were actually unable to sell them and they were looking for a way to make money.
The idea came that they should sell the properties by offering them to multiple owners for a fraction of the price. Each owner would then be able to use the property for a specific time period. In the late 80’s the hotel chains saw an opportunity and help transform the industry. This helped the vacation industry and allowed corporations such as Bluegreen to offer vacationers a travel and vacation alternative.
About Bluegreen Corporation Divisions
Bluegreen Corporation operates in three different divisions. The Bluegreen Communities is the division that markets and actually sells residential properties in such areas as Atlanta, Richmond, and Dallas. Areas like these are chosen because these markets offer communities with luxury residential housing, lake views, and golf courses.
While the community division sells homes the Bluegreen Resorts division focuses soley on the resort and vacation timeshare business. The timeshare packages are setup so that owners have a flexible way to travel and vacation. Timeshare resorts are sold on points which allow for owners to use the points at any location they deem for travel. When you purchase a timeshare from Bluegreen Corporation you will also have to consider that you will also need to pay fees to cover maintenance, assessments, and even real estate taxes.
Bluegreen Finance division is actually fairly new to the corporation, and they focus on providing an option for potential customers to finance both the residential homes and the vacation timeshares. There are some questions about the recent $60 million deal with Liberty Bank as people question whether are not the company should have gotten a loan to cover their “receivables”.
